Tips to measure yourself
Tools you'll need
- Measuring tape
- Set square
- Graph paper
How to map out your kitchen / bathroom space
- Make a sketch of the room, starting from left to right. Ideally work this sketch onto graph paper.
- Measure the length of each wall.
- Measure from floor to ceiling.
- Measure to the centre of electricity sockets and plumbing outlets.
- Measure the distance to any windows and doors and include measurements from the floor to the bottom of window trims / from the ceiling to the top of the window trims (the trims are included as part of the complete window or door measurement)
- Remember to account for the height of any new flooring yet to be laid
Record your cabinetry dimensions
- Total height including kickboards and benchtop
- Cabinet/drawer height
- Cabinet/drawer depth
- Cabinet/drawer door width
- Kickboard height and depth
- Benchtop depth, width and thickness
- Handle position
Appliances
Don't forget to also measure and plot the dimensions and position of appliances such as fridge, oven, dishwasher and so on.
